Montana Mountain ATVing
Bordering the Superstition Wilderness, Montana Mountain rises near Apache Junction on the eastern side of the Phoenix Metro Area. The mountain provides a great loop for off-roading vehicles, climbing over 5,000 feet to provide fresh and panoramic views of the desert all around.
While the start of the trail is wide and easy to navigate, you’ll need to be a little more careful or experienced for the upper reaches that can get fairly steep and narrow. Along the way, you’ll see the desert scenery gradually change and spread out far below you as you pass by abandoned stone buildings, intriguing rock formations, and a few water crossings. If you go up in the winter, you might even have a chance to catch some snow— just be prepared for things to get slippery.
