Hardly an hour northwest of the Phoenix Metro Area, Wickenburg isn’t an inconvenient drive to make for a weekend outing. For off-road enthusiasts, the Black Hills Box Canyon near Wickenburg is an excellent place to go to test yourself on every level and type of terrain that the Arizona desert has to offer.

Many of the trails in the area cross the Hassayampa River at a few points, so you’ll need to be prepared for water crossings unless you want to come in the drier months when the seasonal river is dry. Other than the river, you’ll have your choice of sandy pits, dirt singletrack, challenging rock climbs, desert hills, and tight canyons to pick from on a great weekend trip.
