Hidden Valley Trail via Mormon Trail Hiking

Not well known to tourists, the South Mountain Preserve is a gem used mainly by Phoenix locals, and this trail is one of its shining examples. The trail gains 918 feet over a 3.4 mile loop, so it’s a bit of a challenge but nowhere near difficult if you’re looking for something new with unique sights.

While the hike gets a steep start, the rest is very much worth it. Weird but interesting rock formations dot this trail in plentitude, and petroglyphs peek out for viewing on many of them. A number of these boulders have piled up in such a way to form a natural tunnel, which creates a perfect picture taking opportunity from any angle to bring back home as a souvenir of this trail.
