Piestewa Peak Summit Hiking
This is one of one of Phoenix’s most popular mountain summits to climb, so you’re well advised to come early on a weekday in order to beat the crowds that Piestewa Peak (formerly Squaw Peak) draws to itself. While the trail is only 2.2 miles long, its 1151 foot elevation climb out and back can be just as taxing as it is brief.
While your legs will certainly be complaining for the way up, your eyes will be graced by views that are the reason for so many sightseers. Piestewa Peak’s schist rock forms natural stairs that make up most of the trail up and down, and away from the rocks you have beautiful flowering desert plants along with wide views of the valley that congratulate your ascent of this well worn challenge.
