West Fork Black River Trail Hiking
Just south of Greer, this is an easier 4.8 mile in and out trail with a rewarding turn around point. The trail starts on fairly level terrain, and you’ll find yourself walking under the shade of pines, firs, spruce, and even some aspens that clear out for the occasional meadow. The leisurely stroll doesn’t last forever though, as the trail drops down a steep and rocky slope to a worn but sturdy bridge.
Across from the bridge is your reward, the Black River itself (thankfully it isn’t actually black). Here you can take a break in the shade, take a dip if the weather is hot, or break out your fishing line and try for some trout. While the water can look tempting for a drink, be sure to bring a filter if you plan on drinking it or refilling your pack.
