Woods Canyon Lake Kayaking
Further up the Mogollon Rim at 7,150 feet in elevation is Woods Canyon Lake, an incredibly popular recreation spot just east of Payson. The lake and its shores are just as scenic as the rest of the Rim, and it’s constantly stocked with trout if you’re looking to cast during your kayaking excursion.
Woods Canyon Lake tends to be the busiest out of all of the Rim lakes by far, and for good reason. Access is fairly easy on paved roads, there are a number of nearby campgrounds for easy access to the lake, and a country store by the shore means you can be more lax about planning when you take a trip up. The store does have kayaks for rental, but due to the popularity of this beautiful lake they run out quickly on a packed weekend.
