Apache Trail ATVing
Named for the Apache’s that used to use the route to move through the Superstition Mountains, the Apache Trail is less of a trail these days and more of a long scenic drive that connects highways. While the maps might label it as Highway 88 and give the impression that it’s a paved road, the trail is all dirt from Tortilla Flat to Roosevelt.
The views to be had here are varied and impressive. You’ll head through the Four Peaks Wilderness, the Superstition Mountains, past Canyon and Apache Lake, and wind over the Salt River for the northern stretch. While the scenery is easy to get caught up in, just be sure to watch where you’re going since the sides of this road can lead to some pretty steep drop offs.
